Summer Park & Ride Pilot Launches in Bude

Summer Park & Ride Pilot Launches in Bude

Connect Bude welcomes the launch of a new Park and Ride pilot service in Bude, running from 19 July to 30 August 2025—a project led by Cornwall Council as part of the Future Coast Bude programme, funded through the Coastal Transition Accelerator Programme (CTAP).

This new seasonal service is about more than just parking—it’s a bold step toward helping Bude adapt to a changing climate and easing congestion in the town over the busy summer months.

What’s Happening?

Between 9:30 and 19:00 each day, you’ll be able to park near Bude Business Park (accessed directly from the A39) and hop on a dedicated Park & Ride bus that will take you into town. Buses will run every 15 minutes, taking a loop via Stratton Road, with drop-off and pick-up at The Strand, before returning via King’s Hill.

🚌 Operated as a dedicated service (route 130), fares are low:

  • £2 return per adult
  • £1 return per child
  • £6 family return (2 adults + up to 4 kids)
Note: Concessionary passes aren’t valid on this pilot service.

What You Can Bring

  • Dogs are welcome onboard
  • Beach gear and small bodyboards (if room) are allowed
  • Note: Large surfboards cannot be accommodated

Why This Matters

The Park and Ride is one part of the Future Coast Bude project—a wider £3 million climate resilience initiative funded by Defra and managed by the Environment Agency. Bude is one of only two towns in the South West chosen to explore how communities can begin to adapt to coastal erosion, sea level rise, and long-term change.

By offering alternative access to the beach and town centre, this project helps reduce traffic and parking pressure in areas most at risk from coastal change—especially Summerleaze and Crooklets, where the shoreline is expected to move over the next 100 years.

The wider programme also explores:

  • Moving infrastructure out of erosion zones
  • Improving access to the coast
  • Creating future-proofed public spaces
  • Working with local planning authorities to shape sustainable development in coastal areas

What You Can Do

As a supporter of better transport for Bude, Connect Bude encourages you to try this service:

    1. Leave the car out of town and ride in

    2. Enjoy a lower-stress journey during the summer season

    3. Reduce emissions and ease pressure on local roads

    4. Provide your feedback to Cornwall Council and Future Coast Bude—your input helps guide long-term planning

If the scheme is used a lot, and is shown to be popular we hope it will return and continue into the winter. This Park and Ride service is a practical test of a climate-resilient future. We applaud this forward-thinking investment in Bude’s accessibility and liveability. Let’s all support it this summer!
