Welcome to Connect Bude, a volunteer-ran campaign group established in 2016, dedicated to bringing passenger rail services back to Bude and the surrounding areas. Our mission is to reconnect Bude and Holsworthy to the National Rail Network, initially via Okehampton.

We believe a restored railway will provide significant benefits to the region, including:

Improved transport links: Easier access to Okehampton, Exeter, and beyond will boost tourism and business opportunities in Bude.
Sustainable travel option: Rail travel offers a more environmentally friendly way to travel compared to cars.
Community regeneration: A reopened railway will act as a catalyst for regeneration in Bude and surrounding towns.

Before Connect Bude, the 2016 50th anniversary of the closure of the line became the catalyst for a public meeting. Remarkably, 150 people attended, demonstrating a strong desire to see the return of train services. This overwhelming show of support became the driving force behind the creation of Connect Bude. Formed in the wake of that successful meeting, Connect Bude is now a well-established group with a clear mission: “To reconnect Bude and Holsworthy to the National Railway Network.”

The story of Connect Bude is a testament to the power of community spirit. From a single meeting to a formalized large membership base, their dedication to bringing public transport services back to Bude is truly inspiring.

We’re busy building a strong case for Bude’s connectivity future. This includes conducting bus studies, rail studies, and passenger surveys to understand current travel patterns and potential demand. Furthermore, we’re developing a comprehensive business case to present a compelling argument for the regions connectivity. Our collaborative spirit extends beyond Bude’s borders. By supporting the formation of Connect Launceston, we’re working to create a united front and amplify the call for improved public transport and rail access across the region.
